Bah! Vista! Humbug!
Well, I finally figured out what's going on with a nasty mother of a bug that's been plaguing me. It's put GDT really far behind where I'd like it to be, but such is life. Between that and a few other Vista bugs, I've lost quite a bit of time. In any event, I digress...
I'm working on a nice new and bright shiny machine with Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit edition. Things should go smooth, but no... I've been getting a trillion errors and nothing has been working. So I reinstall Vista and Visual Studio 2005 and start from ground zero after 3 months of intermittent pain.
Still... The same pain...
So I start farting around with things and finally figure out that the “Any CPU” setting doesn't really mean that. It means “Any CPU for the main program”. OK. Got it. Set things to x86 and things start to work. (That was very painful...)
The x86 setting only works for the main program (project or whatever) and anything else had better be for the current platform. So, if you've got an x64 Vista edition and you've got previous x86 code, then you're hosed.
But now that I've got things figured out, I'm a happy camper again.
The main error to look for is a System.BadFormatException. If you've got one of those little buggers, then check that all your assemblies are x64 or set your projects to x86. Things start working then as Vista understands x86 if you tell it to.
Cheers,
Ryan

re: vista screen
yea you have to change the contrast in video options in renegade. go into game then config then video and lower the contrast to 1.0 instead of 1.3. on another note i get gameplay pending in any server while using vista, but it was working fine before i defragmented. idk wtf is wrong. reinstalled multiple times, running in compatibility mode as admisnstrator. nothing works.
