Well, I suppose it was only a matter of time...
But how does it become MySpace's responsibility after an unreleased album gets leaked? Obviously it had to be someone with access to the music. Someone in the studio? Office staff? Whoever it was, seems like they're the ones at fault and the ones that should be sued.
But I suppose Rupert Murdoch has deeper pockets. That's a good reason to sue someone. Hey - you're rich! Let me sue you! Flawless logic. Got to love the geniuses at Universal Music.
Still, it's hard not to feel sorry for them as they've lost a bundle on that leaked album. They're not cheap to produce, and this is only going to hurt them more. I don't see too many people really empathizing with the record labels anymore. After the RIAA started going after 7 year old kids and grandmothers... Well. Whatever.
I suppose YouTube is on the hitlist, but that's going to be pretty hard given the general quality of the audio. Nobody had any problems with mixed tapes years ago, and with the low quality / high quality thing that they've been arguing, it seems to me that they've kind of been digging their own grave. 64kbps mono and such? Yikes. Turn that crap off! It's just painful to listen to.
Cheers,
Ryan

Re: Universal Music Sues MySpace After Jay-Z's Kingdom Come Album Leaked
Yep. Couldn't agree more with you. However you can expect to see more of it as the labels are canvassing the politicians right now to legislate to allow them to clobber the likes of MySpace with criminal charges - not just a law suit - and they may well get there way. The growth of MP3 (and the eventual introduction into highger bit rates that are better than "CD Quality" are the way forward for musicians and the labels know that when it errupts (there perspective) they are going to become obsolete. As you say - they've dragged their feet and they have been found wanting.

Amen Scott! They've ignored consumers and how they want to get their music. The current selection of stores is pretty poor in many ways (let's not go off on the DRM thing as that's a long rant). Well, I suppose AllOfMp3 is offering people what they really want, but there are problems there as well.
It will be interesting to see how serious damage control gets handled.
Personally, I'd love to buy music online in the FLAC format. That would let me change it to something else like MP3 so that I could use it where I wanted to, and I'd still get full quality.
