I can be pretty dumb sometimes, and not follow my own advice. i.e. If you want some decent quality, you've got to pay for it. Cheap junk is cheap junk.
Not that my last mic was cheap, but it was still junk.
So I got myself a Shure SM58 and the difference is astounding. Check out this audio sample to see just how dramatic the difference is. (Right-click and choose 'save as' or click to play in your browser.)

The SM58 is just insanely better. The other mic was about half the price, but doesn't deliver 10% the performance of the SM58.

Thanks go out to the guys at The Project Studio Network for mic reviews on their show that finally motivated me to get a decent mic.
Peace, Love, and Eternal Groovieness :)

Re: New Mic - Shure SM58
I've been planning to buy a new mike and I think you have convinced me on the SM58. I will be using it with an M-Audio fast track Pro computer interface unit. I'll let you know how it works. Thanks Ron

Re: New Mic - Shure SM58
It's beautiful. I'm shure you'll like it ;)
There's also an SM58s that has an on/off switch. You might want to consider that.
Cheers!
