More than just a point of interest, those with slow loading pages may wish to seriously consider a faster server.
I've got a couple sites that I don't really maintain it or do anything with. They are just "there". I use them for testing DNN module installations or just for fun more than anything else.
Neither of the 2 sites ever had any real rankings in Google before, and the traffic has been quite low, which doesn't bother me as they are just throw away web sites for me.
One runs on DotNetNuke, which is an ASP.NET portal. If it isn't visited, the application stops, so a new visit incurs some overhead and it's slower to start, resulting in a slow load time for the first visit.
My old web host was slow too. Which made the situation painfully slow. But I switched to a dedicated server and now things run REALLY fast. The startup time is zero and everything just pops up.
I checked to see if the site (http://www.panasonicsucks.org) ranked for "panasonic sucks" in Google, and it was way up there - it was the second top site when I checked whereas before it was way way down where you'd never see it. The site has been up for quite a while too.
Nothing has changed - no new content - nada.
So it looks like site speed is also a very real factor in Google's ranking algorithm.
http://renegademinds.com may have moved up, but I haven't checked. It had lots of traffic and the application never went out of memory, so it didn't incur that startup penalty.
Another site (http://lyrics.renegademinds.com) is just a fun music lyrics thing that I thought I'd do for fun. Maybe some people will find it useful. Whatever. Boys and their toys :)
On the old server, it was painfully slow to load. Now, it's lightning fast. And I live on the opposite side of the planet!
But it's got quite a few pages indexed by Google now (I didn't check any others). Some are actually fairly high all things considered. I found a few search terms where it was in the top 5 results. Nothing changed - only the server. Well, I switched from a subdirectory to a subdomain, but that's the only other change. So there's some confusion about whether the issue is about speed or subdomain vs. subdirectory. But given the simultaneous change for both sites, I'm inclined to believe that the change for lyrics.renegademinds.com was also related to speed.
At the end of the day, I think that if you've got some slow load times, you might want to consider moving to a faster server to improve your SEO.
Cheers,
