A fellow I know posted about his falling software sales, and then another person, and another. After chatting and getting feedback from quite a few people, it seems like there's a general trend since Katrina.
Some developers were reporting sales down as low as 30% of normal. And everyone noted the dates that their sales dropped, as well as the territory - the United States.
For those developers that sell mostly into the United States, that drop in sales really hurts. Other developers have strong sales in Europe, and aren't in the same pinch, but still noticed that their sales in the US dropped very significantly.
Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to belittle the suffering of those that were in the path of hurricane Katrina. I'm just making an observation. That being that a serious disaster in the US can really affect software sales in a big way.
One person mentioned that there was no real drop in sales like this after 9/11. I suppose if you compare the scale of damage, that would make sense. Katrina devastated cites - plural.
Cheers,

Re: Katrina and Software Sales - An Observation
More money is getting spent on gas, not to mention the failing US economy.
