VistaDB is in jeopardy, and may disappear entirely. It's a crying shame, as it's an excellent product.
Read about why here and here.

Re: VistaDB in Jeopardy
All latest responses of current company's owner on VistaDB forum tell everybody he's not going to care of customers and product since 1st August. It's clear the last upgrade will be draining the VistaDB trademark till the last penny and seems Jason is not hiding this goal. I doubt somebody buy the company in such situation. Since OSS has been declined by him as well it really makes uncertain future of VistaDB. All in all it looks as escape from gold island he inherited but couldn't find a mining way.

Re: VistaDB in Jeopardy
True. I don't really know what went wrong there in their marketing. It was a fantastic database. I hope that somebody takes it over though, as I would like to see it continue. It's hard to justify continuing to use a defunct product in my own software. I suppose that I'll need to shop around for a new database in case it isn't acquired by someone that continues to develop it.

Re: VistaDB in Jeopardy
What did go wrong? Well. Perhaps it's a standard set for such case. Empty promises, lie, making everyone are guilty but your own. Proofs? Easy! Quote Jason Short: Today - http://infinitecodex.com/post/2010/08/11/Small-Business-Lessons-continued.aspx "no one ever promised a server - EVER. Get that very, very clear." 3 years ago - http://www.vistadb.net/blog/post/2007/10/30/VistaDB-business-case-Scalability.aspx "The VistaDB 3 Server will be released next year for medium sized deployments."
By the way, I extracted last link from latest customer’s comments. It's disappeared for now. I still hope the product will be taken over by right person. Jason says "I am going to work for Microsoft" ... Hmm... I guess it means he might be pushed by them to left. He has to hurry.

Re: VistaDB in Jeopardy
My former employer had VistaDB. We found a serious bug in VistaDB. Jason was pretty much a complete ass to us about it. After that I was recommending against to everyone I knew.
It wasn't fantastic. It was an adequate product with severe limitations especially performance.

Re: VistaDB in Jeopardy
It seems to be a pretty common comment that Jason has been, well, less than cordial at times. I never had any problems with it, but then again, my needs were simple and I never released any commercial products with it.
