Depending on which statistics you believe, software piracy in China is 90% or 96%. There are also fake Guccis watches, fake Chanel bags, fake this, fake that, and fake everything else.
Just to get a grip on this before I spill the beans... A little while ago 11 people or so were executed for selling fake baby formula that killed several babies and made a lot of others quite ill. Fake baby formula. That's pretty low.
But now, you can buy FAKE EGGS! That's right. The Chinese pirates aren't content to pirate human made good like software, designer goods, and won't settle for selling garbage as something it isn't regardless of who it kills... Now they are manufacturing and selling fake eggs. The things you have for breakfast. The stuff you make eggnog with (not rum).
Some eggs are simply filled with dirt, while others are chemically made from borax, alum, glue and other less describable things. The eggs have been sold in Mainland China, Macau, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam and other countries. Fake eggs cost about 1/2 the price of the real thing.
So the next time you're in China, get the Big Mac instead of the Egg McMuffin ;)
